Although formally trained with a degree in Urban Studies, Rick Gerharter has found his true calling in photojournalism. Based in San Francisco, Rick Gerharter has been photographing for over twenty years. His experience is broad and deep, with special emphasis on photojournalism and travel. He is a people photographer, being able to work well in a variety of environments, capturing the uniqueness of each. He also has a special love for architecture and has photographed widely in this area, interior and exterior, details and vast rooms.
His photojournalism can be seen regularly in the Bay Area Reporter of San Francisco; and elsewhere in a wide variety of periodicals and newspapers including the Economist and Newsweek. His photos are featured in several books and his travel photos can be seen in many Lonely Planet travel guides, several of which he has been the lead photographer. His photos are also used by various other travel institutions, tourist bureaus, and tour promoters.
