Description:
A 4-star hotel in the historic center of Rome, was designed
in 1938 by Mario Loreti, and is located on the highest of Rome's
seven hills, the Esquilino. It offers its guests a magnificent
panoramic view of Rome.
The hotel was initially designed to be a hotel in the grand European
style and this goal has indeed been fulfilled. With 266 rooms
on 10 floors, the building stands over fifty m high.
Its interior design is inspired by a monumental and understated
luxury. The lobby is adorned with marble busts of Roman Emperors
and mosaics portraying the departure and return of Ulysses to
Ithaca, the young Telemacus, Penelope and his dog Argus. The decoration
is dominated by precious woods and marble, and a sea motif occurs
throughout the hotel. The beautiful Breakfast Room with its high
ceilings is decorated with tritons and mermaids in carved oak,
with two large chandeliers decorated with mermaids and matching
lanterns;
The Hotel Mediterraneo is one of the best examples of Art Deco
in Rome. Ten floors of understated classical rationalism enriched
with marble and fine woodwork like the grand marble staircase
with steps and landings built with solid pieces of marble suspended
in air. The bar has an alabaster counter and wood panels inlaid
with fine woods depicting Bacchus in the company of grape harvesters.
The central lobby has a working fireplace surmounted by a wood
inlay panel with Prometheus, while on the upper level in the grand
lobby one of the walls boasts a painted vellum map of the Mediterranean
Sea.
Its centrally located position, near the Termini Railway Station,
makes for an easy walk to the main sites of Rome, such as the
Trevi Fountain, the Coliseum, Imperial Forums, the Opera House,
the National Museum of Rome and the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore.
Its proximity to the Termination Railway Station and the subway
station enables you to move around the city easily, and the direct
airport train, taking you to and from the Leonardo da Vinci Fiumicino
airport, is available only a short walk away at the Termini Railway
Station.
Hotel Mediterraneo offers 7 sunlit luxury suites on the 10th floor
penthouse with lovely terraces and a Roof Garden Bar, all with
an extraordinary panoramic view of the city, of from the dome
of Saint Peter's at the Vatican to EUR and the domes of baroque
Rome.
At the hotel's restaurant, exquisite dishes of Italian and international
and cuisines can be savored accompanied by a selected list of
vintage wines.
Hotel Mediterraneo can also host conferences of up to 100 people
in its two meeting rooms both equipped with the latest audio and
video technology, which includes an amplification system, audio
and video recordings, projection systems, photocopier, direct
telephone line, and air conditioning.

Breakfast Room
Open from 6:30 to 10:30 am, the breakfast hall awaits you with
an international breakfast buffet with a selection of cereals,
fresh fruit and juices, and oven fresh pastries all in a refined
and elegant atmosphere. Home-made bread is baked daily and sliced
fresh to order, and the buffet offers even breakfast salads, a
particular breakfast favorite of our Asian visitors.
The hall is spacious and well-lit, elegant and
refined with predominant colors of the sea which compliment the
motif of this room; decorated with tritons and mermaids in carved
oak with two large chandeliers mounted with mermaids and lanterns
that resemble those of a ship.
Restaurant
Ristorante 21 is a perfect example of Italian Art Deco: the main
room is decorated in mosaics highlighting the work by D'Urso inspired
from a hunting scene, beautiful woodwork, and marble busts of
Roman Emperors. Open from 12 noon to 3 pm and again from 5 pm
to 11:30 pm, this refined, warm and friendly atmosphere has maintained
the original style of a time when traditional Italian cuisine
discriminately dominated.
Ask the Maître D' at Ristorante 21 to suggest one of the
restaurant's gastronomic delights. Complement your meal with one
of the many vintage wines, which by tradition are especially chosen
by the Bettoja family to enhance the menu selections.
Bar
The Main Lobby Bar located in Hotel Mediterraneo's Grand Lobby,
with an exceptional bar counter in white alabaster, and fine workwork
inlaid with the figures of Bacchus in the company of other grape
harvesters, all done during the 1930s.
In the winter, the bar is open from 6:30 to 12:00 midnight, while
in the warmer periods of the year, the bar moves upstairs to the
Roof Terrace Garden, located on the 10th floor with a magnificent
terrace decorated with wicker sofas and pillows. Taking a break
becomes a real pleasure while enjoying a hot or cold drink as
you admire the view of Saint Peter's, the Coliseum, Via Veneto
and other sights of Rome.
Both hot and cold sandwiches, salads and other appetizers
can be ordered here and for room service.

Guest Comments
It's about a 1 minute walk from the front of the
termini and is handy for walking to most of the famous sites
in Rome. the only time we took a train was to hop over to
the Vatican but even then if you enjoy a walk it wasn't
too far to go by foot. the hotel itself was spotlessly clean
and the staff on the front desk were exceptionally friendly
and helpful with my various enquiries. the room wasn't huge
but it more than catered for our needs and had all the bits
n bobs you'd expect - telly/ hairdryer/ mini bar etc etc.
the breakfast has been slated in previous reviews and it
wasn't of the highest standard but there was a lot of choice
and i left every morning fully fed and satisfied and set
up for the day ahead - options are cereal/ continental/
eggs & bacon and various fruits, yoghurts, pastries.
I like a good brekkie and wasn't disappointed, in fact it
was a shame I didn't have room to shovel more in! all in
all I would thoroughly recommend this hotel for the city
tourist.
