Your trip, day by day |
Day
1 ROME - NAPLES - POMPEII - SORRENTO
Early morning departure from Rome for NAPLES, where
a short visit of the town is featured. Then on to
POMPEII, the famous Roman city destroyed by the
volcanic eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in 79 a.D. Lunch in
a
local restaurant, and afterwards, visit of the excavations.
Proceed on to SORRENTO. Dinner and overnight at the
hotel.
Day 2 SORRENTO
Buffet breakfast. Day at leisure in Sorrento. Dinner
and
overnight at the hotel.
Day 3 SORRENTO - CAPRI - ROME
Buffet breakfast. Departure to Capri by steamer.
Weather conditions permitting, visit the Blue Grotto.
Return to Marina Grande and then transfer to
Anacapri. Lunch in a typical restaurant followed by
a
visit of Augustus’ Gardens, with a view of the
Faraglioni. Return to Rome at approx. 09.30 p.m..

Naples |
It was in Naples, in the
'Castel dell'Ovo' (Castle of the Egg), that Romulus Augustus,
the last Emperor of the Western Roman Empire, was imprisoned
after being deposed in 476. In the sixth century, Naples was
conquered by the Byzantines during the attempt of Justinian
I to recreate the Roman Empire, and was one of the last duchies
to fall in Norman hands in 1039, as they founded the Kingdom
of Sicily.
