Wine Tour Details

Terroir Visited

COSTIERES DE NIMES
The region is composed of pebbly alluvium brought by glacial era and villafranchiens gravel, resulting of alternated periods of warming and glaciation of quaternary era. These are enveloped pebbles, on a thickness from 5 to 15 metres. We also find a red clay bed called "Gapan", located generally in-depth as well as “Taparas” - kind of calcareous cement - which binds pebbles between them. The rollers store up the sun heat during the day and restore it at night. The Mediterranean climate with maritime influences is characterized by 3 components: sun with more than 250 days of sunshine per year, rain concentrated on a reduced number of days and the Mistral, which blows and cleans the vineyard up. All these elements produce grapes with very strong potential and high sugar content. The varietals grapes for red and rosé wines is composed of Carignan, Grenache, Mourvčdre, Syrah and Cinsault. In white wines, the main varietals are white Grenache, Marsanne, Roussanne, Clairette, Bourboulenc, Maccabeo and Rolle. Maceration can be long (3 - 4 weeks) or short (6 - 10 days) for the red ones, depending on the objective : high end wines or wines to be easily drunk. The aging in tanks or barrels, can go from 6 months to 2 years for the high quality wines. Red wines are elegant, well balanced, round, generous and fine with aromas of red fruits (plum, cherry plum, cherry). Rosé wines, fed with the sunlight, have aromas of red and dry fruits. White wines are fruity with aromas of flowers.

On the Way

NIMES
Roman and Hispanic, Camarguaise and Cevennes, Languedocien and Provence, Nīmes is at the crossroads of all the southern roads. Nīmes is more than two thousand years old. Two thousand years of history, artistic and passionate architecture. Rome is here like home and forever, from Nemausa the original source, the Maison Carrée, to the imperial oval Arena. The places of worship carry the painful marks of history and the Wars of religion. Nīmes, centre of Protestantism. For a long time, textile industry, wool, cotton and silk offered richness and development to Nīmes. The city still shows the traces of this prosperity through the facades, many Private Mansions and splendid monuments. Nīmes possess also the ardour of camarguaise traditions and bullfighting spirit. A paradise for gourmets and amateurs of refined and inventive gastronomy around products of terroir.

More than 2000 years of history can be discovered as you stroll along its narrow and secret alleyways - marvellous Private Mansions, silent witnesses from a period of prosperity during the 17th and 18th centuries, created by the silk and fabric trade which made Nîmes known throughout the whole of Europe. Many other places are worth to visit, like the arenas and the Maison Carrée (modern art museum). Lunch on your own before departing for Beaucaire early in the afternoon. Beaucaire, like Nîmes, has the same rhythm of the Camargue. We will visit a Farmhouse which still today produces wines according to the rules of its ancient art. Several ingredients are used to create these dry and sweet wines, making them full bodied and with a unique character. Our evening : a wine bar to practice and taste astonishing wines of the area, and then dinner in a gourmet restaurant in Nîmes, near the arena. The typical ambience of the South is assured!

We will spend an unforgettable moment on the Bridge of Gard, 2000 years old aqueduct, 50 km long and magnificently preserved in a natural environment of 165 hectares of Mediterranean landscapes.
