Champagne is a historic province in the northeast of France, now best known for the sparkling white wine that bears its name. Its western edge is about 100 miles east of Paris. The cities of Troyes, Reims, and Epernay are the commercial centers of the area. Most of Champagne is now part of the French administrative region of Champagne-Ardenne, which comprises four departments: Ardennes, Aube, Haute-Marne, and Marne. In the High Middle Ages, the province was famous for the Champagne Fairs.

Day 1 - Reims
We start the day with a guided tour of Veuve Cliquot

We follow with a gourmet lunch at Les Crayeres

After lunch you take a a guided tour of the late gothic style cathedral where most of the French kings were crowned and the Palais de Pau

After our visit we will do another tasting at Martell.

Overnight and Dinner at Chateau d'Etoges

 

Day 2 - Epernay
We'll start the day with a visit to Hautvillers where champagne was born, and visit the church where Dom Pérignon (the monk) is buried, before going to a little nearby winegrower to taste his champagne.

After lunch a drive and final tasting before returning to Paris.

Day 1 - The Famous Producers
We start the day with a guided tour of the late gothic style cathedral where most of the French kings were crowned

Today we will visit 3 small producers including Philiponnat where you will taste organic champagne, and their exceptional "Clos des Goisses" cuvée...

Lunch at a lovely local restaurant in Epernay.

After lunch, your will go further into the heart of Champagne country for another tasting at the Cave des Associations where you will experience a selection of a few small producers

On the way we stop for yet one final tasting of a organically gown champagne.

Sample itinerary:

Day 1
We start the day driving through Anthenay, Chatillon sur Marne then on through Binson, Reuil, Venteuil, Damery, Cumières.

Our first stop is stop is at Hautvillers to visit of the chapel (Dom Perignon) and champagne tasting.  The a wine tasting at Moet before lunch at an excellent restaurant in St-Imoges where you will rarely find tourists.
The afternoon consists of a tasting at Mercier then a driver past Villers Allerand, Rilly, Mailly and stop at Verzenay near the famous lighthouse for a wine tasting at the cellars of Emmanuel Pithois with overnight in their charming B& B and an outstanding completely home-made dinner.

Day 2 :
The next morning we head further south to through the small villages of Verzy, Trépail, Ambonnay, Tours, Bisseuil, Mareuil, Ay. En route we will be stopping at small producers for tastings. We cross Epernay, then head south through Pierry, Cramant, Avize, Vertus. with several stops on the way for tastings. Then Vertus and the touristic road down to Sézanne. Finally we return to Paris.

Highlights:
- Anthenay: Large old fortified farm
- Chatillon sur Marne: Colossal statue of the pope Urban II (the first one to organize crusades to Jerusalem); he was born in Chatillon. His statue was erected in the 19th century.
- On the way from Damery to Venteuil: fantastic view of the huge castle built by Veuve Cliquot on the other side of the Marne (Boursault). Same style as Chambord, 350 windows!
- Hautvillers: spectacular view of Epernay and Marne valley. Tomb of Dom Perignon in the old chapel (owned by Moet & chandon). Very cute houses, very flowery, with beautiful signs by the wall of most houses representing the work in the vineyards.

Program

Day 1: Champagne
You chauffeur guide welcomes you at Paris Charles de Gaulle airport.with an air-conditioned Mercedes van.

Lunch is at your convenience on the way to Reims.

Visit of the world famous Cathedral of Notre Dame in Reims, built in 1211 and who has seen the coronation of many French Kings, especially King Charles VII attended by Joan of Arc.

Visit of the caves of Moet & Chandon (Dom Perignon). Dress warm!

Gastronomic dinner with various champagnes and night at your 4* L' Hotel La Briqueterie near Epernay.

Day 2: Champagne & Chablis

In the morning you visit “De Castelane” or “Claude Cazals”caves, a very personalized tour of their caves and tasting.

Lunch is at your convenience on the way to Chablis.

In Chablis you visit the caves of the private Domain “Dauvissat or Pommier”, famous for their 1er Cru.

Dinner and night in a 4 star luxury hotel Chateau de Gilly near Clos Vougeot

Day 3: Burgundy

Drive through the vineyards along "Route des Grands Crus", passing Chambolle-Musigny, Vosnes Romanée, Nuit-St- Georges and Aloxe Corton with the appropriate wine tastings.
Lunch is at your convenience in Gevrey Chambertin.

Day 4: Burgundy

Visit of Chateau Clos Vougeot, listed by UNESCO as a world heritage.

Dinner and night in Chateau de Gilly

Day 5: Loire Valley
Departure for the Loire Valley.

Visit, tasting and buffet lunch at the Chateau du Nozet. This Domain is famous around the world for its white wines made of Sauvignon Blanc.
After a walk in the vineyards, you take part into a private visit of the winery.
Of course, you will taste their wines of the best "cuvees" (Pouilly Fumé de la Doucette).

A buffet lunch is served with wines of the domain.

Visit of a goat cheese farm "Corbier" and tasting of organic cheeses.Your chauffeur guide drives you to Sancerre. After a presentation of the Sancerre vineyard, you are welcomed to the caves of La Poussie and Comte Lafond for a wine tasting of white, rose and red wines.

Landing with a helicopter by the Chateau, visit of the domain, visit of the winery and wine tasting at the Chateau du Nozet is exclusively for "Val de Loire Prestige" customers.

Departure from the Chateau du Nozet in a helicopter for a flight over the Chateau of Chaumont sur Loire, Blois, Cheverny and Chambord. The helicopter takes you to your 4 star luxury hotel Chateau de Chissay for check in and dinner.

In the shade of the castle of Chenonceau, the castle and surrounding wood of Chissay, an old royal residence, is an ideal place of stay.

It has personalized and elegant rooms, with views on the park, swimming pool or the Rennaissance court.

The gothic vaulted dining room " La Table du Roy ", offers regional inspirations.

Day 6: Loire

You visit one of the best Vouvray maker, Domain Marc Brédif.
The visit of the cave is followed by wine tasting of dry, medium dry, sweet and sparkling Vouvray.

Lunch is booked in a traditional restaurant in a cave near Vouvray.

Early afternoon, the Domain de la Noblaie welcomes us for a visit of its vineyard in Chinon. In their caves, we taste 5 red wines including matured wines.

For the last tasting of Loire Valley wines, we go to Bourgueil at the Domain de la Lande. This wine maker makes fantastic red wines made of cabernet franc. His best vintage is made of 70 years old vines.
