Besides all major local press and news agencies (CTK, Lidové noviny, MF Dnes, Týden, Reflex, Respekt, Spectrum Pictures), René Jakl has also worked for the international agencies (DPA, AFP), press (Die Welt, The Daily Mail, The Sun) and specialised architectute magazines. Jakl is regularly shooting reportage and portraits for the English weekly The Prague Post. The British travel guide Time Out and the New York based Nota Bene chose his photos of Prague's streets, monuments, bars and clubs for their Prague editions. Among Jakl's other clients are both large multinational corporations and local non-profit organizations.
Prague-based photojournalist René Jakl (born 1972) shot his first noteworthy reportage photos in the mid-1990s while studying in Washington DC and during a trip to the West Coast. His latest award-winning photojournalism work includes reportage documenting the landscape and people of Northern Bohemia suffering from the effects of the region’s mining and heavy industry. Jakl's fine art landscape photography, again mainly of Northern Bohemia, counterbalances his critical photojournalistic view.
His awards include 1st Prize Czech Press Photo, Nature and Environment category, (2006) UNICEF Prize (2006), and especially the most prestigious national award Photo of the Year Czech Press Photo (2002). Reportage is not the only field he covers with excellence.

Route
We begin our journey from the meeting point at Pohorelec tram stop near the Hotel Savoy (easily accessible via tram 22, 23) and journey towards Strahov Monastery. Strahov is one of the oldest surviving and still functioning monasteries in Europe offering beautiful architectural details as well as garden spaces. Our trip then continues along the scenic Petrin Hill Gardens where various vantage points offering stunning vistas of Prague’s Mala Strana as well as Hradcany will be pointed out. From this point we will then head off the beaten track along one of the smallest stairs you will ever see towards Loreta, a beautiful cloister that surpasses many others in Europe.
After stopping off in Loreta, we then travel to one of the gems of Prague, the picturesque houses of Novy Svet (or New World). Here we can see homes that have architectural details that are not commonly found as well as traverse the empty medieval streets that few tourists know about.
From atop the hill we will then wind our way towards Hradcany and then downwards to Mala Strana. Our vantage point here offers another unique view of the rooftops of Prague looking down towards the river.
From here our journey goes towards the river along one of Prague’s most architecturally stunning streets: Thunovska as well as Zamecke schody - which lie under the castle. Along this route the photographer will show various ways to capture the magic and beauty of these famed cobblestone streets and if time allows we will enter the stunning Vrtovska gardens that offer a delight in photographing opportunities. Our tour will then end at the other side of Charles Bridge, Novotneho Lavka where stunning views of both Charles Bridge as well as Hradcany Prague Castle (Hradcany) can be found.
